Matthew Loosley

Senior Conservation Architect

Matt is an AABC accredited Conservation Architect and his passion for both practical and academic aspects of building conservation have led him to become involved in several varied and interesting projects during his career.

During undergraduate studies, Matt won travel scholarships to Peru and China, plus an RIBA design competition for the adaptive re-use of a Victorian Corn Exchange, The John Peel Centre in Suffolk. During postgraduate studies, Matt was awarded a scholarship from the RIBA and Worshipful Company of Chartered Architects to study Modernist ruins in India.

After qualifying in 2017, Matt was awarded a SPAB scholarship, where he learnt directly from craftspeople and conservation professionals throughout the UK and Italy. He uses these skills while working on buildings ranging from flint ruins to St Pauls Cathedral, and enjoys the complexities of working at Purcell on significant public buildings.

Outside of work, Matt enjoys cycling, blues harmonica and life drawing.
