King Charles III visits St Bart’s North Wing
HRH King Charles III has visited St Bart’s historic North Wing in recognition of the successful Sharing Historic Barts project fundraising appeal.
The Sharing Historic Barts project, which has now raised £9m (including a £4.2m pledge from the Heritage Lottery Fund), will see the Grade I-listed North Wing’s fabric restored, with a new programme of heritage-inspired wellbeing activities to be introduced within the revived building.
During the visit, The King met with specialists enlisted to help restore the historic North Wing and its interiors: this included Purcell’s own Chairman, Liz Smith, who was delighted to speak with His Royal Highness on Purcell’s involvement in the project.

The Sharing Historic Barts project, on which Purcell are working as architect and lead designer with Barts Heritage, coincides with the Barts900 anniversary campaign and will see the full repair and conservation of the external envelope of the North Wing and the conservation and representation of the Great Hall and Hogarth Stair.
